Our Parkerfest 2015, held July 25, made a nice summer return to Flute, which where we held the first gathering sixteen years ago. Since 1999 a lot has been changed, but the old speakeasy that was once Texas Guinan’s Club Intime still seems like a throwback to a different era.
Our partners in Wit’s End, led by Don Spiro, ran the party. We had our hostess, the burlesque star (and baker) Dandy Dillinger onboard for a warm welcome, joined by our favorite actress, Melody Jane. At the door was our friend Christine Cassidy. A hallmark of the Wit’s End party are free dance lessons, led by the wonderful instructors Jerry Lynn and Neal. Our DJ, Mike Haar, spun the top hits of the Jazz Age.
We also had our annual walking tour of Dorothy Parker’s Upper West Side.
It was a warm night, but so fun. We look forward to going to Governors Island next month.
