Dorothy Parker was among many New Yorkers who found a second home in beautiful Bucks County, Pennsylvania, in the 1930s. Just 82 miles southwest of Times Square, the rolling hills and farmhouses drew the city dwellers during the Depression. Famous Manhattanites such as Moss Hart and Kitty Carlisle, George and Beatrice Kaufman, and S. J. and Laura Perelman, also moved to the area around Doylestown.
Join Kevin C. Fitzpatrick at the Doylestown Historical Society Barn on July 30 for a lively talk and discussion about these notable names, which continues today as the region remains a draw for many boldface names from the arts to live and work in the area. Fitzpatrick is the author of Dorothy Parker’s New York, the Algonquin Round Table New York: A Historical Guide, and many more. He is the founder of the Dorothy Parker Society and in 2020 he carried Dorothy Parker’s ashes from Baltimore to New York and buried them next to her parents in Woodlawn Cemetery.
There will also be books available and a special cocktail. Information:
