Dorothy Parker spent 30 years off and on living and working in Los Angeles. That’s reason to celebrate for the book tour for Under the Table: A Dorothy Parker Cocktail Guide for upcoming events in Los Angeles. A fantastic local podcast this week, hosted by Richard Schave and Kim Cooper, You Can’t Eat the Sunshine: The Esotouric Podcast, has as their guest Adrienne Crew, president of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Dorothy Parker Society. Adrienne leads West Hollywood walking tours of the lives of Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Check out the podcast as she talks about Mrs. Parker and the Garden of Allah. Adrienne and I are giving a bus tour of Mrs. Parker’s Hollywood on Dec. 14 (info below).
Thursday, Dec. 12, 6-9pm, will be a book talk, signing, and cocktail party at the landmark Los Angeles Athletic Club, 431 West Seventh Street, sponsored by the Los Angeles Visionaries Association. The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required and can be made here. We will be drinking Dorothy Parker American Gin (now available on the West Coast). Don’t miss this fun event!
Friday, Dec. 13, 6-8pm, author meet and greet at Tags, an upscale clothing store in West Hollywood, at 8570 W. Sunset Blvd. Sample cocktails and do some Christmas shopping, enjoy 15% off merchandise. RSVP email here.
Saturday, Dec. 14, will be two events: A bus tour of Dorothy Parker’s West Hollywood and Beverly Hills, visiting her former homes and haunts. See where the Garden of Allah once stood and spy the former mansions and cottages that Mrs. Parker resided in. It boards at 1 p.m. (across from Book Soup). Tickets are $49 each and available here.
At 4 p.m. Dec. 14, Book Soup, 8818 W. Sunset Blvd, is the place to be for a book talk and signing. Learn about Mrs. Parker’s Hollywood years, speakeasy drinks, and Prohibition recipes. It is free and open to the public. Information and details here. This is the only book store event in Los Angeles to buy a signed copy of the book.
There will also be a special secret private event in Los Angeles. Follow Kevin on Twitter for the announcement.
