The last Saturday of every month, January-October, the Dorothy Parker Society has a party with Wit’s End, the only 1920s vintage social society & dance enthusiasts in New York. After all, the DPS does not have meetings, it has parties. In September we are back with another Jazz Age soiree with the fantastic female vocalist, Molly Ryan, as we celebrate the end of summer with the Flapper Holiday.
Saturday, September 29, Flute Midtown, 205 West 54th Street (near Broadway). Doors open 8:00, free dance lessons 8:30. $12 at the door. Advance tickets available now on Ticketweb.com.
Tonight’s theme is “Flapper Holiday” night. Come in your finest flapper outfit or suit, Jazz Age swimwear or vintage evening attire and celebrate in decadent style with live hot jazz, classic cocktails and good times!
Molly’s silvery voice and lush, elegant vocal style evoke the big band singers of the 1930s and breathe new life into familiar old standards. Originally from Roseville, California, she made her singing debut at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee with the Reynolds Brothers’ Rhythm Rascals when she was eleven. Since moving to New York City in 2003, Molly has appeared with such prominent jazz artists as Randy Reinhart, Howard Alden, Jon-Erik Kellso, Kevin Dorn, Mark Shane and Vince Giordano’s Nighthawks. Most recently, Molly can be heard on the soundtrack of the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire.” Molly has also had her vocals featured on the Discovery Channel.
Free dance lessons by our good friends Jeri Lynn Astra and Neal Groothuis will be at 8:30. Come out and learn a few steps before the band goes on.
Dress code: Jazz Age, evening wear, 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s vintage is encouraged! Coats for gentlemen; no sneakers or shorts. Table reservations are available and encouraged; telephone Flute Midtown reservation line at 212.265.5169 to reserve a table.
