The 40th anniversary of Dorothy Parker’s death will be marked with a special evening in New York on June 4, 2007, in Manhattan. The Dorothy Parker Society is sponsoring an evening of talks, readings, and refreshments. The event will be held 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Revolution Books, 9 West 19th Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues. It is free and open to the public.
Dorothy Parker died June 7, 1967, on East 74th Street. Her obituary noted her incredible popularity and charm. The Society, founded in 1999, aims to bring new readers to learn more about Mrs. Parker.
On June 4, readers will present some of her best writing. There will also be a talk by Marion Meade, author of Dorothy Parker: What Fresh Hell Is This? The book is being re-issued for its 20th anniversary with Penguin Books; What Fresh Hell has been the definitive Parker bio since 1987.
