There is a fake Dorothy Parker autograph selling on ebay this week. Stay away from it. I sent a message to the person selling it, he/she didn’t even bother to reply.
It’s selling for over $200, a “signed” copy of Death and Taxes. It’s so obviously not Mrs. Parker’s signature. Ever hear of her using “M” as a middle initial? Or using “Ex Libris” bookplates like your grandmother? I think not.
There are samples of the real signature in The Gallery to compare to. PLEASE don’t bid on this book! The auctioneer even writes: “I have handled several signed Dorothy Parker items and this signature matches perfectly with her signed limited editions.”
WRONG. Beware of fakes on ebay and other online auciton sites. Check the Archives for this ongoing problem.
