Mark your calendars: Saturday, Aug. 28, 1999, is Parkerfest in the Big Apple. The Dorothy Parker Society of New York is organizing events to coincide with Parker’s birthday on Aug. 22. At least three big events are on tap. First, things kick off with a walking tour of many of the locales in Dot City, starting on the Upper West Side. Immediately following is a special evening show of the wonderful Off-Off Broadway play Laughter and Hope and a Sock in the Eye. This is the show (wonderfully staged by Christine Hahn and Susanna Hobrath) that played in April to rave reviews. The show is at 8 p.m. Wrapping up the day will be a Speakeasy Tour for those Parker aficionados over age 21. We will be making the rounds of several saloons to toast Mrs. Parker and her legacy. Details to follow soon. If you want to pre-register, drop me a line.
