The Dorothy Parker Society does not have meetings: we have parties. And in March we will have two, in two locations of the world-famous Flute. These are now monthly parties, so if you reside outside of New York, you can make plans: The Last Thursday of the Month and the Last Saturday of the Month!
On Thursday, March 25, at Flute Gramercy, 40 E. 20th Street, in the underground private cabaret in the cellar, will be the debut of an evening of live music, flowing cocktails and witty repartee. We haven’t settled on a name for the event yet, but here are the details. On piano will be incomparable Bill Zeffiro, the man behind the hit show Road to Ruin. The lineup for March 25:
*Sarah Rice, the original Johanna in Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street on Broadway for which she won a Theatre World Award and recorded on RCA.
*Summer Broyhill, who made her Broadway debut in Hairspray at the Neil Simon Theatre.
*Henry Kaiser, one of the popular stars from 1930s Idol at Big Night Out.
*Emily Linstrom, star of the burlesque stage as Miss Em.
*Plus special surprises
The show starts at 8 pm. There is no cover but drinking minimally is encouraged. Must be 21 to attend.
The next Wit’s End party at Flute (205 W. 54th Street) is Saturday, March 27th, 7pm to Midnight. The theme is “Hooray for Hollywood” with a 1930s silver screen theme. The live music is from Molly Ryan and her Debonaires. Free dance lesson at 8:30. Win a copy of the new book “Lonelyhearts: The Screwball World of Nathanael West & Eileen McKenney.” Don’t forget to dress up, because it is mandatory to wear vintage evening attire 1920s-1940s: Gentlemen: coat and tie required. Ladies: Cocktail/Evening Attire 1920s-1940s vintage/vintage-inspired encouraged. Free hors d’oeuvres at the bar 7-8pm. Tickets are $12 *cash* at the door, and you MUST RSVP to [email protected]. Also look for the Wit’s End Group on Facebook.
If you can’t make this one, the party is always the last Saturday night of the month.
